Correction: I said Sarah told Danielle she shouldn’t take stupid risks with herself, because of Dani’s Destiny, echoing what Sarah told John in T2. But actually in TDF, it was Grace telling that to Dani. Which makes the echo/callback even greater.
Also, Carl and the drapes is a bit gender-stereotyped, but I guess a robot would have a fairly reductionist decision-tree?
So I admit that I still have about 18 minutes of podcast to go, but I’m really enjoying the discussion (and I really enjoyed the movie).
For me, one big, unanswered question is what was the story with all of the OTHER Terminators that Sarah Connor had been killing over the previous 25 years?
If I put my mind to it, I could probably come up with a headcanon where Skynet and Legion (and maybe several other versions of the Matrix AI?) are waging a timewar by sending multiple Terminators back to try to steer the timeline to their preferred outcome, while the humans are another faction trying to defeat/destroy ALL of the possible variations on the AI.
I’m so glad you are enjoying the discussion, along with the movie! Yes, that’s an intriguing question! Skynet obviously sent T101s to multiple points in time, just in case. Would those later ones, lacking a focus, have turned into, IDK, tailors and dry cleaners, or just randomly killed humans? But I also love the idea of Skynet, Legion et alia becoming aware of each other and getting involved in a whole cross-time war, not just going back to kill various Great Men and Women.
