Around the Podosphere is back! Here’s what we’ve been enjoying in the last couple weeks:
On Movies:
- Over at Totally Pretentious, Jen and Shaun talk about the state of Marvel’s Cinematic Universe and spend some time exploring the beauty of The Secret of Roan Inish, an Irish/American magical realist children’s movie. Before that, Shaun and David talked about Jurassic World and Jurassic Park.
- Continuing a tradition of reviewing bad movies, the folks at Read It and Weep tackle the 1984 David Lynch monstrosity, Dune.
- The In Session Film Podcast explores the summer’s scifi bigguns with episodes on Terminator: Genisys and Ant-Man.
- The lovely folks at Filmspotting have handed over the reins (temporarily) to the staff of the now-defunct Dissolve Podcast for a discussion about Tom Cruise’s latest Mission Impossible flick, M:I Rogue Nation. Not too long before that, the regular cast covered Jurassic World!
- The fine folks at How Did This Get Made? take a stab at Sharknado 3, which we have totally avoided for the simple fact that we haven’t covered the second one yet…
- And going back in time, the We Hate Movies crew subjects themselves to the godawful Green Lantern movie.
On Books + Interviews:
- Adventures in Sci Fi Publishing interviews Icelandic author Emil H. Petersen about his work, which we hope will be translated in the very near future (please make it soon…please).
- Mahvesh Murad of Midnight in Karachi fame interviews Nebula-award winner Jeff Vandermeer about editing and his work; just recently, she spoke to Rebecca Levene about worldbuilding and cultural appropriation.
- The lovely folks at Galactic Suburbia talk about the World Fantasy Awards, ethics in reviewing, and a whole lot of “culture consumed” in their latest episode.
- Justin Landon brings Kameron Hurley and Diana Rowland to Rocket Talk to discuss the difficulty women have in the workplace and how it impacts publishing. It’s one hell of a discussion!
- Lastly, the folks at The Book Was Better read and discuss the novelization of Planet of the Apes, the Tim Burton one. Not the original novel. The novel of the movie…the book of the film…you know what I mean!
That’s what we’ve been enjoying in the podosphere. What about you? Let us know what we’re missing out on by leaving a comment with a link!
