Skiffy and Fanty Open Call: Join the Crew!

Join Skiffy and Fanty

We’re looking to develop and expand, and to do that, we want to find new folks to join our handy little crew of geeks. Joining us comes with a few perks: you might get a free book or two here or there, you’ll definitely have some fun, and you probably will make some new friends!

Right now, we are looking for folks to join the show and blog in two categories: contributors to the show/blog and contributors to the management of the show. You can join in both categories if you like; several of our current co-hosts also support the show by managing emails, editing the blog, etc.

We are also especially interested in hearing from LGBTQIA+ and BIPOC folks. We want to continue being a show for all voices and continue our mission to give space to those voices in what we cover!

Here’s a rundown of all the volunteers we’re looking for:

Guest Hosts and Future Co-Hosts

We’re looking for folks who might want to be guests on the show (and maybe future co-hosts). If you’re interested in coming on the show to talk about a movie or TV show, a book, or some other geeky thing, even just one time, then we want to hear from you. You can even ask to be on one of our sub-shows in particular. These include:

  • At the Movies (for movie discussions)
  • Reading Readers (for book and graphic novel discussions)
  • Screen Scouts (for TV show discussions)
  • Torture Cinema (for comedic “bad movie” discussions)
  • SF At School (for experts to come on and talk about their field)
  • Mining the Genre Asteroid (for discussions of lesser known SF/F/H from before 1980)
  • Thrawn and On and On (for Star Wars book discussions)
  • The Eyecatch (for anime discussions)

If you’re a past guest host who had a blast talking to us and might want to come back for more, you should also get in touch (email or the Discord, if you’re in there). We might even want to include you as a new co-host if you’d like that!

Our only requirements: you need to have a stable Internet connection and an OK mic (not a built-in one).

Please note that we’re not referring to coming on as a guest just to be interviewed about your own work. We have a separate schedule for interviews, and anyone can reach out to us about that at any time.

Book/Media Reviewers

If you’re interested in reviewing books, movies, TV, comics, or other geek media for our blog, we’d love to hear from you. There are so many works and angles we can’t reasonably cover with the folks we’ve got on hand.

Come join our blogging crew and contribute to our inclusive blog vision!

Social Media Helper (Big Need)

We are desperately looking for someone to help us with social media because the person who currently manages it works entirely too much to do a passable job (he knows because he’s writing this right now). Our show/blog is on Bluesky, Mastodon, Threads, Instagram, and Facebook (and we have accounts in other places that we’re not using), but managing that in addition to all the other things that need doing (for the show or in our lives) has been difficult enough that we need someone to help out.

So we’re looking for someone who can step into this role. This would involve reposting interesting content, helping us come up with stuff to post, and helping us keep relatively active on our primary platforms. Even just a little bit of help in this area would go a long way!

We have a SocialBu account to manage our socials and a Canva account for creating graphics (if that’s useful).

If any of this sounds like a thing you’d like to volunteer for, the best way to get in touch is via email at skiffyandfanty@gmail.com. Get in touch.
