2018 Awards Season Eligibility: Our Things, Guest Things, All the Things

2017 might not have been the best year for the world, but it was a pretty good year for our little podcast. We added a few new shows, produced a whole lot of great content (thanks to Jen’s diligent work as producer), and brought on a whole lot of new voices. We also got this flashy new website (thanks, Jade!) due to our Patreon supporters being awesome. As we do every year, we like to share all of the awards eligible things created by us, our crew, and our guests. Where relevant, we’ve linked to individual creator’s eligibility posts on their websites. As always, we thank you for taking the time to check out this post and for considering us, our crew, and/or our guests for things in the 2018 awards season (Hugos, Nebulas, and more). Here goes:

Poll: What should we rename the Shoot the WISB Movie and TV Podcasts?

It’s time. We’re changing the name of the Shoot the WISB podcasts to better fit our little media collective, and everyone who participates in or listens to this show gets a vote. We took suggestions from our crew and our listeners and ended up with about 20 names (thanks for the suggestions!). From that massive list, we narrowed things down to two manageable polls:  one for movies and one for television.

Quick Note for Blog Subscribers

If you subscribe to the blog itself via the original feed (the one intended for podcasts rather than blog posts), you will need to update your subscription in the RSS reader to this feed. Make sure to do so ASAP, as we’ll start redirecting the podcast feed to the new Full Experience feed starting on Friday. This feed will also give you podcasts as blog posts, but it doesn’t operate like a normal podcast feed. Use the Full Experience feed (see Podcasts) for podcasts and the above linked feed for the blog proper. We forgot to mention this in the Welcome to 2018 post. Sorry about that!

Welcome to 2018: New Website, New Feeds, New Annual Theme, and New Everything!

2018 has arrived, and it brings with it gifts a-plenty! We’ve left 2017 behind, strapped to a thermonuclear teddy bear bomb on a one-way trip to Hell. All its friends were quietly dispatched by an army of invisible badgernauts. In its wake, the Joyous Interdimensional Fleet of Happypants Space Wizards brought us a new year of new things. A new website (see the shiny!), a new annual theme, new podcast feeds, new design, and new everything. And we’re here to tell you all about how 2018 is going to be a year of ch-ch-changes and joy. So strap in, folks. This post is going to be a doozy! Here’s all the stuff in this post:

Reminder: Site Changes This Weekend; Expect Weirdness

Hello! You may recall us mentioning that we plan to move our website over to our new host soon. We may even have mentioned that it would happen the weekend of New Year’s. Welp, that’s this weekend. At some point on Saturday (Dec. 30th), we’ll begin the transfer process from WordPress hosting to our new host. This process should be pretty quick, but we’re setting aside the entire weekend just in case there are any issues. Here’s what you should expect around these parts in the next couple weeks: The link to our website may not work for a short period of time (possibly as little as a few hours). When the site finally transfers over, you’ll notice some BIG changes. Our navigation will look quite different, and a lot of things may be a mess for a while. The main feed should continue to work just fine, so you shouldn’t miss anything. Just hang in there. We’ll get it all cleaned up before our new season starts. Once everything is cleaned up and in working order, we’ll issue another announcement on our main feed letting you know of all of the changes and what you can do to make sure you don’t miss anything (or how you can take advantage of all the new things). And that’s it. So expect some weirdness over the weekend and in the weeks to follow. And thanks for listening and reading in 2017!

Announcement: The 2017 Listener / Reader Survey

I know. We’re a bit late putting this message up on the blog. Still, better late than never, amaright? Two years ago, we ran a survey primarily for listeners of the show. The intent was get a better sense of what was working and not working for our listeners, what listeners wanted us to do in the future, etc. Now it’s 2017, the year of trashfires, and we’re trying to end things on a high note with a bunch of fantastically geeky podcasts and a brand new survey for listeners AND blog readers. So, here we are imploring you to take our survey. It has questions about how you listen to the show, what you like the most/least, polls on ideas we have for the future, questions about blog content, requests for suggestions for future content, Patreon and funding-related questions, and more.
