When I reviewed Evan Dahm’s Vattu Book 1: The Name and the Mark, I mentioned that it was striking (and, let’s be honest, a little embarrassing) that there are so many exceptional webcomics, in my favorite genres, with exceptional writing and art, and some of which ran for over a decade, that I simply never read. Never heard about at all.
In my defense, I went through a fallow period in my reading in the medium, when my other commitments made it challenging to learn about new-to-me comics, or to take long and deep dives into webcomic archives.
Now that I’m well out of my not-reading-enough era, I’m very pleased that there are publishers bringing this work into print for new readers. And here I have to specifically shout out the exceptional Iron Circus Comics, publisher of Vattu as well as the subject of this month’s review, and a number of other timely compilations of great webcomics.
With that said, let’s talk about that webcomic, a work of dark fantasy with a banger of a title and protagonists that I didn’t like at all but somehow still wanted to follow on their journey, Unsounded Volume 1: The Corpse With No Eyes. (Note: This review contains spoilers!)
