Coming Soon: An Audio Skit in Honor of Jay Lake

If you don’t know already, the fundraiser for Jay Lake’s medical bills has crossed the $40,000 mark.  Paul and I saw this coming and talked about the possibility of putting together a short (and silly) audio production in honor of Jay should the fundraiser reach that mark.  Because it has, we have decided to make that audio production. Here’s what will happen: Over the next week, Paul, Jen, Julia, and myself will write and edit a 5-minute audio production featuring Jay Lake in some fashion (we just came up with the idea for the project yesterday, so you’ll have to excuse me for having no idea exactly what we are going to do).  He might be the hero.  He might be a secret ninja goblin master.  He might be the secret bikini-clad statue we all must acquire to save the world.  Or he could just be Jay Lake and we’ll say silly things for 5 minutes in honor of his greatness.  Whatever happens, the skit will contain a number of impressions (quality may vary), including: Sean Connery Peter Lorre Katharine Hepburn The Old Lady Truman Capote Batman Cat Woman A Depressed Elephant Named Frank We may add more later, such as our silly impersonations of characters from Twilight and so on.  If you want to suggest a character for us to play (poorly or otherwise), let us know in the comments. The point is:  we’re doing this for Jay, because he’s amazing and we think being silly in public and poorly impersonating famous people in his honor is a nice thing to do. So that’s that.  If you have any suggestions, questions, etc., let us know in the comments.  And if you haven’t donated yet, go do so.  Every little bit helps!

Call for Authors: 2013 Scheduling Time!

It’s that time again.  We’ve got a total of 22 slots for interviews next year (Jan. is stocked up), and we’d like to fill them.  If you’ve got a book coming out (from large or small press) or you’re a publisher with stuff to spread (or a film producer/etc. with a film to share), you should contact us at skiffyandfanty[at]gmail[dot]com.  Here’s what we’re looking for: Anything that fits within the categories of science fiction or fantasy.  When we say “anything,” we mean that.  Your book need not be published as SF/F, nor must it follow any presumed conventions of genre.  We are open to straight genre, magical realism, weird, odd, surreal, and anything between.  Check out our list of previous guests, which represents a fairly wide range of stuff (though not as wide as we’d like). Anyone, anywhere.  Please note, though, that we are very interested in interviewing people living or from places other than the United States, which means we’ll try to spread out our slots across a range of geographic locations.  Additionally, we have had a hard time maintaining a fair representation of gender, race, LGBT, etc. on this show; as such, we would really appreciate any help in directing folks outside the traditional white-male spectrum to our show.  None of this means we will ignore folks who fit into the traditional spectrums (so don’t think you can’t email us cause you’re a white guy). Novels, short story collections, graphic novels or comics, short films, feature length films, and anything between.  Print or ebook is fine. Additionally, if you are interested in participating in a discussion-based episode, we tend to have around 12 of those each year.  As a general rule, if we can’t fit you into the 22 interview slots, we’ll ask if you’d like to join us for a discussion episode (in which we’ll cover some topic related to genre and ask you to talk about your book at some point).
