Top 10 Posts and Episodes for July 2017
Another month has passed us by, and that means it’s time for another stats post. This round was full of a wide range of material spanning nearly the entire history of our blog and show. We blame Twitter… Here are the most popular posts and episodes from July 2017:
Torture Cinema Poll: August Attack of the 80s!
We realize that you haven’t even heard our July pick, Night of the Comet, yet, but it will be up soon! PROMISE!! What you’ll find when you DO listen to that one though is that sometimes the team gets really lucky and ends up watching something really kind of enjoyable. SO PICK A REAL TORTURE THIS TIME!!! We know! We’ll make it easy! We’ll only pick movies from the official torture list that were made in the 80s. … Oh, gods, what have we done!? … These choices are SO, SO BAD! … save us.

Then, Jen is joined by Wendy Wagner, associate/managing editor of Lightspeed & Nightmare magazines, to talk about her new novel, An Oath of Dogs; they also talk about why she chose to focus on blue-collar workers in Science Fiction, explore man’s relationship with dogs, and what it took to make the jump from Pathfinder novels to one set in her own world. (And yes, it’s a total coincidence that we happen to have on two authors whose titles are palindromes of each other) We hope you enjoy the episode! In our second installment of Reading Rangers, Trish, Paul, Stina, and Kate dive into the second book (internal chronology) of the Vorkosigan Saga, Barrayar, by Lois McMaster Bujold. Trish and Paul offer the experienced voices, while Stina and Kate are mostly new. There is quite a bit to unpack in this book, including why Cordelia is homesick, what the hell is up with the toxic patriarchy of the Vors, and how awesome cave systems are for screwing with stupid soldiers. Next time, we’ll be discussing The Warrior’s Apprentice. Kate might have actually cried a little when she found out it wasn’t all about Cordelia. We hope you enjoy the episode! Signal Boost #12: A Conversation about Conventions, Economics, and Inclusion
http://media.blubrry.com/skiffyandfanty/dts.podtrac.com/redirect.mp3/archive.org/download/SandFSignalBoost12ConventionsEconomicsAndInclusivity/Sandf–SignalBoost12–ConventionsEconomicsAndInclusivity.mp3Podcast: Play in new window | DownloadSubscribe: Apple Podcasts | Spotify | Android | iHeartRadio | Podchaser | Podcast Index | Email | TuneIn | Deezer | RSSOn today’s Signal Boost, Shaun and Jen discuss conventions, the economics of attendance, and how they can be more inclusive. They’re particularly concerned with how convention culture tends to be somewhat exclusive, how conventions often fail utterly at disability access, and how something called WorldCon should MAYBE travel around the world a bit more. Then they squeeeeeee about this week’s mini-boosts. Make sure you let us know about things that YOU love that we should share in future boosts! *Note: Jen conflates SFWA with WSFS. SFWA is NOT in charge of the Hugos, WSFS is! We hope you enjoy the episode!
