This page provides some detail about our comment policy, guest policy, etc.
Podcast Guest Policy (Interviews and Other Episodes)
Currently, we are only considering BIPOC creatives (black, indigenous, and people of color) for interviews and guests. This is based on our announcement in 2020. Please note that requests from publicists or authors who do not fit in this group are likely to end up in the trash. Not because we hate anyone, but because we get dozens of emails about books and simply do not have the time to respond to each one reminding people of our current focus.
However, we will make exceptions for friends of the show (folks we’ve had on a few times or who are friends with or close to members of the show) because, well, you’re friends of the show. And we love you.
We are a science fiction, fantasy, and horror podcast. As such, we’re only interested in works which fit into those categories, are adjacent to them, or are about or related to them. Our definitions of SF/F/H are fairly loose, and we don’t much care about “literary vs. popular” distinctions. We likewise don’t care about the “medium” except to say that we get more requests for literature than other formats (break the trend if you dare). Otherwise, if it’s genre, we’re interested.
Review Policy
While we don’t currently run nearly as many reviews on the blog as we used to, we maintain that, in general, our reviewers are welcome to choose books via their personal criteria with exception to any work which may be detrimental to the Skiffy and Fanty brand (literally a non-problem because our reviewers are good people). However, we do encourage BIPOC writers (black, indigenous, and people of color) to reach out to us or our reviewers about your work. Don’t be shy.
Comment Policy
Our comment policy is fairly simple. We will allow anything through unless it falls into one of the following categories:
- Spam or unwanted advertisements
- Blatantly offensive or threatening comments
Continued abuse of this policy may result in a permanent ban from our website.
Final Note on “Bad Actors”
If you have a history of abusive behavior, we will not consider your work or your person for our podcast. We take harassment and abusive behavior of all kinds seriously and will not support the work of those who continue to actively harm the community we’ve come to know and love. Full stop.
